I challenged myself to participate to the 24h comics day worldwide event this Saturday 3 October 2009.
Updates (time is GMT, newest is at the top)
Sunday 4 October
10h00 : Drawings will be published here but it’s going to take much longer to finish.
Saturday 3 October 2009
16h32 : When I can’t find a solution, usually it’s because it’s just in front of me, very big, very simple. I stepped back and found the resolution of my story. Everything fall in place. Very excited to execute that vision now (I’m very late too and that’s my trademark
15h00 : Just publishing three pages which are the templates I use to define the story I’m doing. They are based on Syd Field paradigm for writing screenplay.
The main weakness of all comics are their stories. It might seems a luxury to spend so much time on this but first I had to refresh my memory with those principles and second I couldn’t layout the scenes without knowing where I am going.
The story is still a puzzle in my head and the resolution is not there. I have an ending, I just don’t know how to get there. By defining the key points I can at least start drawing the very important panels.
12h34 : Structure of the story is still not finished. I’m missing some plot point. It’s important to me to get the story and its structure clear in my head before drawing anything. I need my key panels. Dorian is already bored and watching Night at the Museum 2. Who’s going to wear the headset?
08h56 : How to waste time and your energy: adding a logo on the header of your blog plus an ad
07h00 : Wind is strong, picked up the laundry in the garden. Heads is almost empty.. good. Some worries though. Trying to clean that mess.
01h08 : Retreived the idea I’m going to use for my comics! It’s dated from 25 September 2005. I’ll publish the original documents, but on the meantime I need to sleep on it. Here the original synopsis for the french readers. Avatar ( PDF 36K French by MJB 25 Sep 05)
Friday 2 October 2009
20h30 : This is going ot hurt: no ideas in my head! Might go to sleep soon then… Oh wait, Justin TV account is not a pro one so some people outside US might have difficulties to watch it. Let’s fix that.

What is 24h comics day?
As Scott McCloud, the creator of this event, put it:
« The goal is to create a complete 24 page comic book in 24 continuous hours.
That means everything: Story, finished art, lettering, color (if applicable), paste-up, everything.
No sketches, designs, plot summaries or any other kind of direct preparation can precede the 24 hour period.
Pages can be any size, any material.
The 24 hours are continuous. You can take a nap, but the clock keeps ticking. If you get to 24 hours and you’re not done, either end it there (“the Gaiman Variation”) or keep going until you’re done (“the Eastman Variation”).
THE ONLINE VARIATION: The above applies to printed comics or online comics with “pages” but if you’d like to try a 24-hour Online Comic that doesn’t break down into pages then try this: At least 100 panels AND it has to be done, formatted and ONLINE within the 24-hour period! »
Sadly I can’t find anybody organising the event in London, UK.
Kudos to Alice Ralph from Kube to organise the 24 hour comic day at Pool (Kube, Pool, Dorset BH14 0LS).
Kudos to Imanol Dameck to organise the 24 hour comic day in France at Saint-lô. Check the bande dessinées produced in 2008 and 2007 during this event…
So anyways I will start this Saturday at 10:00am and will finish on Sunday 4 at 10:00am.
I’ll try to broadcast myself on http://www.justin.tv/tibocut and will publish the result on this website and deviantart. Hopefully that will be 24 pages or 100 panels!
It will be a creative common licenced work of course
